Serbian clothing pattern in Pristina,
 late 19th and first half of the 20th century
 

City clothing was mostly tailored, decorated, and sewn by master tailors Serbian women from Kosovo and Metohija exhibited exceptional skill in making silk fabric known as Prizren fabric. This type of weaving could be done from cotton and silk, and it has been known since the Middle Ages. It is characterized by vertical stripes woven into the fabric, created by adding threads to the base.

 

Over time, Prizren fabric became so popular and widespread that it was also known as Serbian fabric. It was used to make lavish women's shirts. The costume was made according to a photograph of Mrs. Denić.
