About choreography from Nerodimlje County

I spent a long time thinking about how to start working on Nerodimlje County when all the Serbian people from this area were expelled, especially when we had nothing to work with. Regarding the fieldwork, God sent us Zoran Dajić and his daughter-in-law Divna, refugees in Kragujevac.

During the first visit to the Dajić family, I knew we would fulfill the long-held desire to bring the dances of this area to the stage from the place where the Nemanjić dynasty once reigned. Ancient folk dances related to the seasons or specific holidays can be found in various parts of our country. In this Kosovo region, the connection between choreographic tradition and the spring holidays of Easter, St. George's Day, and Pentecost is striking.

In Gornje Nerodimlje, old local dances performed from the first day of Easter to the third day of Pentecost are linked not only to these holidays but also to certain important places in the village. There, in the capital of King Milutin, choreographic folklore is related to folk customs and beliefs. Nerodimlje, flooded with legends about the Nemanjić and Empress Milica, is perhaps the best example of how much ethnographic dance can be an integral part of the diverse complex of local folk tradition.
